History
Mrs Ruby Gordon Gold owned the area of land, now known as Gold Park, and desired it to become a memorial to her late husband Reginald Charles Gold.
On 24/04/1939 the 3 acres of land was sold to Mundesley Parish Council by Ruby Gordon Gold for the sum of £900. Her intent is that the land is used as a public open space, pleasure ground and garden for the people in the Parish of Mundesley and subject to the conditions and restrictions mentioned in the following Clauses.
- The council will lay out and will forever hereafter maintain support and improve the property hereby conveyed as and for the purpose of an open space pleasure ground and garden for the public use and will forthwith completely fence in the whole there in a substantial and appropriate manner and will for ever after maintain such fencing in good order and condition.
- No buildings of any kind whatsoever other that a Bandstand (the designs and plans of which shall be submitted to the purchaser for approval if the same be erected during her lifetime shelters for the public or for caretakers and tool houses shall be erected on the said property.
- No sports or games such as Tennis Cricket Bowls or the like shall be allowed on the said property.
- The enjoyment of the said property by the public shall at all times be free of charge and no money shall be demanded or received by the Council in respect of any use or enjoyment thereof by any person whatsoever.
On 08/04/1946 Clause 3 restriction was removed and on 17/01/1949 Clause 4 restriction was removed. See documents.
20/09/1957 Conveyance - Further sale for £1 : "The property shall be used for the purpose of open space (subject to the Council’s conditions as to letting and so forth) and no buildings shall be erected thereon except such as are requisite usual and necessary for the purpose of public pleasure grounds, gardens, sports and recreation fields"
During the WW2, the land was used for allotments and later during the 1940s-60 as a car park to accommodate the influx of tourists coming into the village.
In 1951 the children's play equipment that was on the old recreation ground (now Links Chalet Park) was moved onto Gold Park.
22 May 1990 Gold Park Trust is registered with the Charities Commission . The charity number is 803090
Historically, Gold Park was run as part of the Mundesley Parish Councils’ assets. In 2019, Mundesley Parish Council was given the advice to interpret the Governing Document by a consultant specialising in charitable trusts and it was resolved that it needs to be managed as a totally separate entity from the Parish Council.
